We Are Visible: A Student Film About the Reality of Living with an Invisible Condition

We Are Visible was produced in 2019 as part of a Journalism Master’s Thesis by News Network’s News Director Karina Sturm. However, this documentary has a much deeper meaning: it marked the beginning of a close relationship between Beth Haller, founder of GADIM, the organization behind this platform, and Sturm. Haller organized a film premiere of We Are Visible at Chapman University in 2020, shortly before the first lockdown.

SYNOPSIS:

“But you don’t look sick!” ‘We Are Visible’ gives a voice to a neglected community: People living with invisible disabilities, specifically in the context of the rare condition Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). It showcases the challenges this community faces due to misconceptions surrounding invisibly disabled people and conveys the strength and resilience with which this community fights to be seen. Our condition might be invisible, but we are not! We Are Visible!
